Protected Areas
Explore Central Alberta's Protected Areas
One of Nature Central's main objectives is to celebrate the Protected Areas in Central Alberta and increase the appreciation, exploration, non-consumptive use, and ecological understanding of these areas. There are a large number of Protected Areas (~170) across the region that are owned and/or managed by different agencies, organizations, and municipalities. Nature Central is proud to provide a central (and publicly accessible) inventory of these amazing areas.

To help in the planning of your trip, the Protected Areas are split into four distance categories: 0-25 km, 25-50 km, 50-75 km, and 75-100 km from Red Deer, Alberta.

Use the map below for reference, and use the buttons to the right to see descriptions of the associated Protected Areas.
