Explore Central Alberta's Protected Areas
One objective of Nature Central is to honor the protected areas of Central Alberta while simultaneously fostering a greater sense of awareness, exploration, non-consumptive use, and ecological understanding of these sites. Central Alberta gives home to a significant number of protected areas (approximately 170), all of which are either owned or managed by a range of agencies, organizations, and municipalities. Our program takes great pride in offering a centralized and easily accessible inventory of these awe-inspiring areas, serving as a valuable resource for individuals seeking to engage with the natural wonders of the region.
To help facilitate the planning of your trip, the protected areas have been categorized into four distinct ranges from Red Deer, Alberta: 0-25 km, 25-50 km, 50-75 km, and 75-100 km. This classification system acts as a convenient reference for visitors and allows them to efficiently explore the areas within their preferred proximity. For further assistance, please consult the map provided below. Utilize the buttons located to the right of the map to access detailed descriptions of the respective protected areas associated with each distance category to aid in your decision-making process. |
