Long overdue recognition for landowners who, on their own initiative and at their own expense, conserve at least 2 HA (5 acres) of wildlife habitat.

One of Nature Central's main objectives is to celebrate the Protected Areas in Central Alberta and increase the appreciation, exploration, non-consumptive use, and ecological understanding of these areas.

BRAND NEW: RDRN is pleased to launch a new and exciting ArcGIS Story Map. Called the Red Deer River Naturalists Mapping Project, this Story Map provides a visual representation of all the protected areas within a 100 km radius of Red Deer.

The goal of Nature Central is to celebrate the protected areas in Central Alberta and to increase the appreciation, thoughtful exploration, non-consumptive use and ecological understanding of these areas.  At present, there are various protected areas across the region that are owned and/or man-aged by different agencies, organizations and municipalities. Nature Central provides, through this website, a central and publicly accessible inventory of these areas.

Ferry Point Gathering

The Red Deer River Naturalists have, for the past 11 years, joined the Bjorge family and other farmers in the Ferry Point area of Central Alberta to spend the last weekend in June enjoying the beauty and diversity of nature. The Bjorges own large tracts of native grasslands within the Donalda badland region, which they steward using sustainable grazing practices.

Judy Boyd has volunteered to lead very popular birding trips on these weekends (thank you Judy!), and this year, RDRN also promoted both the Habitat Steward program as well as Nature Central at the event.

We were pleased to present Habitat Steward signs to the Bjorge family.
