Mitchell Pond (3.0 km)

This site is located in the center of Red Deer, with access available on foot only. Most of the paths are paved, though some are dirt. It takes about 20 minutes to walk here from Heritage Ranch. The pond features a large island with trails accessible via a bridge. A dock on the south side provides a spot for fishing and wildlife viewing. Visitors can observe a variety of wildlife, including Mallard ducks, Black-capped Chickadees, Yellow-rumped Warblers, and Yellow Warblers, as well as squirrels, deer, and other animals. The surrounding plant life includes Wolf willow, Balsam poplar, White spruce, Chokecherry, and Dogwood. Within Waskasoo Park, visitors will find amenities including restrooms, picnic tables, a children's playground, and a gazebo. There are also designated areas for disposing of and recycling used fishing line. Please note that swimming is prohibited at this location.

Access: Located in Red Deer, travel northwest on Highway 2. Take the exit to Heritage Ranch and park. On foot, follow the paved path leading to Waskasoo Park.
