Underwood (38.0 km)
Underwood is a 141-acre natural area located south of Boote and east of the Bend, featuring a mix of grasslands, aspen forests, and wetlands. The terrain includes dense forested areas with thick undergrowth and fallen trees, though game trails offer some navigation routes. The site includes four water bodies and is partially accessible via an oil lease trail that provides limited access. Cattle graze on the property, and the boundaries are marked by a fence. The area is home to a variety of wildlife, including birds like the Northern Harrier, Ruffed Grouse, and Blue-winged Teal. Several plant species are found here, including Trembling Aspen, Balsam Poplar, and various wildflowers like Prairie Smoke and Golden Alexander. The west side of the slough lies within Underwood, while the east side is part of the Bend.
Access: Head west from Ghost Pine General Store for 2.4 km, then turn south onto Range Road 254A, just past the fork. Stay east and look for a pullout with a sign. Park at the oil road without blocking access.
