Ponoka Hospital Lands (46.6 km)

Ponoka Hospital Lands is a 106-acre natural area located on the east side of Ponoka, within the city limits, along the Battle River. The area features a mix of aspen parkland, wetlands, grasslands, and willow thickets, with dominant tree species including White Spruce, Trembling Aspen, and Balsam Poplar. A well-maintained trail runs through the site, offering access to fishing along the river and serving as a popular spot for walking, particularly among dog owners. Wildlife in the area includes Mule Deer, Moose, Beaver, Red Fox, and various bird species such as Blue-winged Teal, Northern Shoveler, Bufflehead, American Coot, Eared Grebe, Ring-billed Gull, Alder Flycatcher, and Downy Woodpecker. Common plants include Canada Violet, Chokecherry, Wild Red Raspberry, and Goldenrod. This accessible space provides a quiet, nature environment within the town.

Access: To access the site, take Highway 53 in Ponoka, head south on 46th Street, then west on 35th Avenue. Park at the end and enter via the Diamond Willow Trail.
