Nova Chemicals Community Nature Trail (26.4 km)

This 200-acre property features grasslands, aspen groves, and some forested areas that support wildlife such as weasels, snowshoe hares, and mule deer. It is also a stop-over for migrating waterfowl like Canada Geese, Northern Shovelers, and Mallards. The site includes gravel paths and boardwalks, with seating, washrooms, and picnic tables for visitors. Informative signs along the trails provide details on local plants and animals, including species like wild rose, goldenrod, chokecherry, wild raspberry, prairie smoke, and prairie crocus, as well as trees like trembling aspen, balsam poplar, and white spruce. Birdwatchers can spot species like the American Coot, Ring-billed Gull, Western Meadowlark, Yellow Warbler, Golden-crowned Kinglet and Tree Swallow. The area is ideal for both educational programs and casual visits.

Access: From Red Deer, head east on Highway 11 and then turn a north onto Highway 815 for 3 km. Then west on  Township Road 390 to the parking lot.
