Kuhnen Park (17.6 km)
Donated by the Kuhnen family in 2015, the Kuhnen Natural Area is a 65-acre site located north of Blackfalds along the north bank of the Red Deer River. This space features a mix of forested areas, including trembling aspen, white spruce, and balsam poplar, along with marshes and a large pond. Visitors can explore well-maintained trails that offer lookout points over the river valley, leading down to the water. The area supports a variety of wildlife, including white-tailed deer, mule deer, moose, and beavers, as well as birds like the bald eagle, red-tailed hawk, tree swallow, ruby-throated hummingbird, hairy woodpecker, western wood pewee, red-eyed vireo, hermit thrush, American redstart, and yellow warbler. The plant life includes species like wild red raspberry, saskatoon, wild rose, goldenrod, and prairie crocus.
Access: From Blackfalds, head north on Highway 2A. After 2.7 km, turn left onto Township Road 400, then right onto Range Road 272. The entrance to Kuhnen Park will be on the left side of the gravel road.
