Haskell (43.4 km)
Located south of Delburne, Alberta, Haskell is a 160-acre protected area consisting of grasslands, upland bush, and wetlands. Situated just north of the George Wildlife Area, it provides habitat for wildlife such as deer, snowshoe hare, and weasels. Birdwatchers can spot species like Redhead, Red-eyed Vireo, Vesper Sparrow, Alder Flycatcher, Eastern Kingbird, Least Flycatcher, and Blue-winged Teal, along with more common birds like American Robin, Baltimore Oriole, and Eastern Kingbird. The area also supports a range of plant life, including willows, trembling aspen, balsam poplar, Canada anemone, bunchberry, lowbush cranberry, cattails, goldenrod, and fireweed. Accessing Haskell requires crossing a barbed wire fence along a pathway that connects it to George.
Access: To reach Haskell, travel 4.8 km south from Delburne on Highway 21, then turn east onto Township Road 370 and continue for 3.2 km. This will bring you to the southeast corner of George. Turn north on Range Road 232 and continue 0.8 km to Haskell on your left.
