Collins (44.6 km)

Collins is a 136-acre natural area located northwest of Elnora, consisting mainly of grassland habitat bordering a large wetland. The area’s tall grasslands are home to grassland bird species like Bobolinks, Savannah Sparrows, Clay-colored Sparrows, and Song Sparrows. Smaller wetlands support shorebirds such as Killdeer, Wilson's Snipe, and Wilson’s Phalaropes. Other notable bird species include Yellow Warblers, Rose-breasted Grosbeaks, and Black-capped Chickadees. Waterfowl found in the area include Blue-winged Teal, Northern Shovelers, Mallards, and Redheads. The plant life includes Trembling Aspen, White Spruce, Wild Rose, Saskatoon, Cow Parsnip, Marsh Ragwort, Common Yarrow, Purple Milk Vetch, and Goldenrod. An oil lease path enters the property from the gate, but the remainder of the site is accessible by foot, offering an excellent opportunity for birdwatching and wildlife observation.

Access: To access the site, travel south on Highway 21 from Delburne for 18 km, then turn west onto Highway 590 and continue 2.4 km. The site will be on your right. Alternatively, turn north onto Range Road 240 and park at the approach.
